Patrick Demarchelier: a parisian in New York

 La vita di Patrick Demarchelier, leggenda della fotografia, cambiò quando ancora diciassettenne ricevette in regalo la sua prima macchina fotografica. Con talento e passione bruciò le tappe e dopo un periodo di gavetta alla “Publicis”, diventò l’assistente di Hans Feurer.
Con piglio e decisione riuscì a farsi largo nel mondo della moda e, dopo un’assurda bocciatura da parte di Elle, iniziò a collaborare con Vogue USA, tanto che nel 1975 lasciò Parigi per trasferirsi a New York, dove ancora oggi vive.
La sua carriera nel fashion system è leggendaria, infatti ha realizzato servizi per le maggiori testate (Vogue Usa, Vogue Paris, Vogue Uk e Vanity Fair, Harper’s Bazaar), e firmato le campagne per le più importanti case di moda.
Patrick non è semplicemente un fashion photography, ma grazie alle sue fotografie artistiche è riuscito ad acquisire un immenso prestigio, tant’è che nel 1998 divenne il fotografo ufficiale di Sua Altezza Reale la Principessa Diana, diventando così il primo ritrattista non britannico della famiglia reale. 
Patrick Demarchelier è considerato il “fotografo della naturalezza” poiché con il suo obiettivo è capace di mostrare i meandri più nascosti dell’anima di chi fotografa; lui vive ogni scatto come una sfida ed il suo inconfondibile tocco, il “Demarchelier touch”, è quasi invisibile, ma permette di dare gusto, raffinatezza ed eleganza, riuscendo a rubare quegli attimi di spontaneità dei soggetti in posa.

The life of Patrick Demarchelier, a legend of photography, suddenly changed when, at the age of seventeen, he received his first camera. He immediately rushed into things and after a period of apprenticeship at “Publicis”, he became Hans Feurer’s assistant. With strong determination he entered in the world of fashion and, after being absurdly refused by Elle, he started to collaborate with Vogue USA insomuch as that ,in 1975, he moved from Paris to New York, where he still lives. His career in the fashion system is legendary, indeed he worked for the biggest fashion magazines (Vogue Usa, Vogue France, Vogue Uk and Vanity Fair, Harper’s Bazaar) and signed up campaigns for the most important fashion houses. Patrick’s not only a fashion photographer, but thanks to his artistic photos he acquired an undisputed prestige, insomuch as that in 1998 he became the official photographer of Her Royal Highness Princess Diana, thus becoming the first non-British portrayer of the Royal family. Patrick Demarchelier is considered the “photographer of naturalness” because his lens is able to show the darkest meanders of his subject’s soul; He lives every click as a challenge, and his unmistakable “Demarchelier touch”, even if it’s almost invisible, gives taste, refinement and elegance to the photo, catching those few and essential moments of spontaneity of the posing subjects.
